So I have been trying to study for the last couple of hours. As expected, my mind has been everywhere else but on the task at hand. Also, as expected, I started having a strange craving a while back - for a nutty, fudgy icecream. So, I shut the book for the 54th time in the past hour, threw on a sweatshirt, didn't have patience to wear socks and shoes so shoved my feet into a pair of flip flops, and went out to a Dairy Queen across the street from campus.
All the way I had that particular mix of ice cream in my mind, while at the same time being very aware of my freezing feet. I could taste that ice cream.
In 10 minutes, I reached the place and within a few seconds was standing in front of the cashier to order. And then it hit me. What do you call such an ice cream? While she was looking at me expectantly, I looked up frantically on the menu board above, and found every single kind with every possible combination but the one I had in mind.
Nope, not the banana split. Can't stand it. Ice cream and banana - yuck!...
Not the cone, it has no fudge...
Not the sundae, it has no nuts...
Oreo Brownie Earthquake?? Hmm, interesting.. but not what I want right now...
Peanut Buster? No, not peanuts. I want the other kinda nuts I cant think of right now...
Waffle Bowl sundae... Again, a possibility. Those strawberries look good.. but not today.. Fudge, ice cream and nuts today.
Mint chocolate chip blizzard.. but that's a blizzard, not ice cream...
"Are you ready to order yet?"
I looked behind. There was no one there. Not like I was holding up people. Why is she getting her hairnet in a knot?
Oh come on! It isn't that uncommon - what I had in mind!
"Okay since I can't find it here, can I have something like a combination of ice cream and chocolate and nuts?"
"Yes I can make you that combination. So that's a sundae?"
"Sure."
"Arright. So that's cholocate ice cream with nu.."
"No no no. Not chocolate ice cream. Ice cream and chocolate. Two items."
"Oh so you mean vanilla ice cream with chocolate on it?"
"Yes. Fudge."
"Oh fudge? Not chocolate."
"Yeah. Sorry for that."
"That's okay. And you want nuts on them. Mixed nuts?"
"No."
"Peanuts?"
"God, no. The other kind."
"Pecans?"
"Yes! Pecans, you're right. I want pecans."
"So you want a hot fudge sundae with pecans?"
I stared at her for a good five seconds.
"That's right."
Fuck. How could I forget the name 'hot fudge sundae'? I have it all the time. It is like the most common ice cream after mint chocolate chip. Ooh, mint chocolate chip. I should have it tomorrow...
It took her 5 minutes to get the order from me and 50 seconds to make it.
Studying is not good for my mental health.
